Writing your advert

To make your advert as best it can be we need as much information as possible to help you sell your items. Try to include the following information:
  • Title of Advert - Try to make this unique and sum up what you are selling in just a few words.
  • Description of item - Try to state as much vital information as possible i.e. Make, model, quantity, condition, sizes, extras, missing parts, colour, materials, use, age, etc. (This can be as brief or as long as you like).
  • Price - Please state whether this is each, for all, job lot, for 6, ONO, willing to split, etc. (We use this to calculate the cost of advertising with us).
  • Location - Give a rough location or postcode so buyers don't have to ring and find out. Unless specified we will use your address from payment or company location.
  • Delivery notes - Buyer to collect, delivery at cost, Payment on collection, etc.
  • VAT - Plus, free or included. (Unless otherwise told we will assume VAT free, or if you are trade we will assume prices are +VAT).
  • Contact details - Provide a phone number and/or email address. (If you don't supply us with this information we will use the email address you have contacted us with and any phone number we have for you).
We also advise that you include key words in your advert, for example if you want your advert to appear when someone types in specific words then you need to include these words in your advert or they won't appear in the search.

Along with this information, to get the best interest, it is advised that you include some photos of your items. Don't worry if you don't have a photo, you can still place your advert.

Remember the photographs you submit are 90% of what the customer bases their decision on to ring you and to buy your equipment. It could be worth getting a professional to take a photo of expensive items.

It is best if you have a main photo which, like your advert title, sums up and shows everything that you are selling in that advert.

You can have one or as many photos as you feel necessary to sell your product (within reason). Be aware that we may not upload all of your images if we feel that they are not needed. If they are very similar to each other, we will pick the best ones. If you would like specific photos on your advert, let us know and we will happily add them for you.

Tips and things to avoid:

  • Try not to capture people or random objects, these won't help you sell your items.
  • Avoid blurry photos - Take your photographs in a well lit area, making sure that the light isn't behind the object as this makes the object really dark. If possible use a tripod, or alternatively rest your camera on a solid object like a chair.
  • Don't take excessive photos of one object from every angle, the best photos show at least two sides and the top, you should be able to show every side of your equipment with two photos. Close ups are advisable to highlight any special features or to make buyers aware of any damaged areas.
  • Look at the background! It will only take a moment to clear the rubbish from where you are taking the photo! Even better use a white sheet behind your item to make a neutral background.
