Description
Here we have a converted Volvo Olympian double decker bus.Converted to be static and sitting on a site, planning delays in our local area "due to Covid", have pushed us to move on and change direction. Time to find "Hameish" a new home.
The lower deck opens up to the luggage area, which we have kept intact. Many conversions tend to use this area as a kitchen but we wanted somewhere for large bags to be stored.
From here, is the kitchen area. Grey gloss cupboards to one side and large black gloss drawers to the other. A scratch resistant black Franke sink, with a tap and a handy extendable hose, complete it.
Within a solid oak worktop is a 3 ring induction hob. A hidden pop up plug supply nestles in the worktop also with 3 sockets and 2 USB ports.
A single vintage style fridge sits at the end of the kitchen area. Automatic, motion sensor lights sit under the kitchen cupboards.
Then we move to the rear sitting area. Here the bespoke table is height adjustable. It can be lowered to make this space a super king sized sleeping area, or somewhere to chill. We were going to install a projector at the rear of the bus to make this a movie area.
Throughout the lower deck are colour changing remote controlled LED lights. With softer lights at the rear, and stair area.
There is a handy storage area under the stairs, opened by a specific key, included.
The drivers cab has been kept original for the bus loving fanatic. (Have seen these been converted to toilets)
The upper deck makes use of the vantage point, with a seating area situated at the front. Again have seen these blocked off and used as a sleeping area. Why have the height and not have the view? The upper area we did not want to put too many walls up, only the bathroom, so as to utilise the 360 view.
At the top of the stairs, we have a handy changing area with an original bus pole acting as a hanging rail, just outside the bathroom. Head space is a premium, so having somewhere to sit to get changed made sense.
The bathroom has a properly flushing toilet, connected to a macerator for attaching to a septic tank. There is a corner sink, with a useful shower attachment for the tap. To provide hot water to the kitchen and bathroom there is a 15L boiler located under the kitchen sink. This should provide more than enough hot water.
The sleeping area consists of a set of small single bunks. Each bunk having its own reading light. The rear of the upper deck is taken by a kingsize sleeping area, with vintage style bedside lights. Lighting on the upper deck is soft white, dimmable, remote controlled LED stripe above the windows.
Curtains for all windows are provided, mattresses too. A couple of induction frying pans, a kettle and toaster are also included.
The bus can be connected to a standard caravan hook up for power, or run from a generator if required. The water supply can be gravity fed with the use of a water pump connection or mains connected, with a inlet to the side of the bus.
The only thing required would be cushions for the rear seating area. The engine is intact, working, and we replaced the belts, and strengthened the lower deck floor. We had an air suspension bag and seals replaced on the rear passenger side, the self levelling valve here also needs fitted. Our man just didn't make it back before we left Glasgow to fit it. The valve itself is provided. This makes driving it fun. It has no MOT, so is unusable on public roads.
We were informed that for insurance purposes, the engine, when the bus is static on site, would have to be removed. We were going to put a sliding BBQ area in here.
There is a ton of potential to add decking a hot tub etc, and with pods, huts and tents ten a penny, if you have a site or looking to do something small to generate income it is in the 5% of glamping accommodation, so definitely rare.
Having researched, I could only find 19 double decker buses throughout the UK.
When doing some projections, even very conservative ones, the profit was encouraging.
It cost us £1000 to get this towed from Glasgow area to Aberdeenshire. Approx 150 miles, so please bear this cost in mind if you are a serious bidder.
